How to Apply

*Deadline for Fall 2017 Admission: December 1, 2016*
Note: We do not offer spring or summer admission

1. Apply Early!

    • To ensure that your application is processed as efficiently as possible, we strongly recommend that you submit your completed application (and all required materials) as early as possible. It is important to complete required tests and request transcripts and letters of recommendation far enough in advance so that they are received by the application deadline. Only complete applications are reviewed

2. Submit the UW-Madison Graduate School Application online:

    • Indicate intended Major Field of Study from drop-down menu: “Cancer Biology PhD”
    • Upload unofficial transcript(s) from EACH postsecondary institution attended (undergraduate and graduate), even if no degree was received
      • If accepted to the program, a hard copy of the official transcript (sent to us by mail directly from the institution with siganture and seal) will be required
      • Note: International academic records must be in the original language accompanied by an official English translation
    • Upload Personal Statement/Reasons for Graduate Study and current CV/Resume (PDF)
    • List names and emails of THREE references who will submit electronic letters of recommendation. Using this option, references will automatically receive an email prompt to submit a letter of recommendation electronically. Be sure to check the box to send the email requests for EACH program that you apply to at UW-Madison  
    • Submit $75.00 non-refundable application fee, payable by credit card (Mastercard or Visa)
      • The UW-Madison Graduate School offers a limited number of application fee grants to eligible students. The Graduate School and Cancer Biology Program do not offer fee waivers to applicants for any other reason than those listed

3. Submit OFFICIAL GRE Scores (and TOEFL Scores, if applicable) from ETS

    • GRE and TOEFL scores are sent electronically from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to the Graduate School at UW-Madison
      • Institution code: 1846, no department code required
      • GRE scores are not accepted if more than 5 years old; TOEFL scores are not accepted if more than 2 years old
    • See the ETS website for more information to obtain additional GRE/TOEFL score reports
    • International applicants are exempt from the TOEFL requirement if: the official language of instruction at the undergraduate institution is exclusively English; they have completed two full-time semesters of work in a U.S. institution; or if they have a degree from an accredited U.S. institution (http://grad.wisc.edu/admissions/requirements/)
4. Check the status of your application
    • Check your application status page through MyUW for missing application materials or additional requests. The link to set up your MyUW account is sent automatically after you submit your application.
    • Please allow several days to process your application materials and for the status check to be updated. If you still have questions regarding the status of your application, contact admissions@oncology.wisc.edu
