A postdoctoral position is available to investigate phosphatase disease mutations in cancer and intellectual disability. With exciting combination of cell biology, system biology, biochemistry, computational biology, and bioinformatics, increasing phosphatase disease mutations are broadly found in cancer and intellectual disability. Understanding disease mechanisms and development of personalized medicine are in compelling need. The ground-breaking work includes but not limited to mechanistic understanding and functional characterization of disease mutations found in phosphatase docking motifs in broad substrates, development of cell-based assays targeting phosphatase disease mutations found in cancer and intellectual disability, characterization of cellular functions of these disease mutations, and how they might be affected by therapeutics. The research will be performed in a highly multidisciplinary setting with basic scientists in Cryo-EM, biochemistry, cell biology, bioinformatics and chemical biology, and built on collaborations with more than 10 collaborative groups from US and Europe as well as dynamic collaborations on campus in both basic and clinical research. UW-Madison has highly collaborative research environment that easily establish novel collaborations. We are seeking productive, and motivated individuals with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written) with strong expertise in cell biology, cancer research, system biology, molecular biology, and application of bioinformatic tools for personalized medicine. Background on cryo-EM, bioinformatics, and interest in acquiring skills in protein biochemistry and structural biology is plus, but not required.
The starting salary for promising candidate will be $48,000 or above.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. To apply: Please send a cover letter, CV and the names and contact information for three references to Dr. Yongna Xing via email: xing@oncology.wisc.edu.
Under-represented minorities are encouraged to apply.
